Not so long ago, garage doors mainly came with only remotes control transmitters, and people were forced to have several sets for use by several household members.īut remotes and keys proved to be disadvantaged in many ways, so garage door builders designed the wireless keypad to counter the challenges posed by keys and remote units. A keypad is unique as it enables one to access their home from the outside without the need to use either a key or a remote control transmitter. Initially, an individual had to go inside the house to input a code into the security panel installed inside the house. Now the world is technology woke, and instead of carrying around and worrying about keys and remotes, garage doors are now installed with universal wireless keypads that are very convenient. Gone are the days when people hide keys under doormats, rocks, or flower pots. Ideally I would like to reset the system but can't find instructions in the manual on that - it refers to a 'master code' but its not written down in the manual, and the one provided doesn't work.Final Thought What Is A Garage Door Keypad?Ī garage door keypad is typically a wireless universal miniature unit consisting of input digits used to access a building from the outside. Other than smoke alarms we're not interested in maintaining the security system. The contact provided to service the unit is no longer available (phone disconnected) and I want to avoid a big service bill from another service company. When I enter the code provided to us the message says "invalid code'. After a few minutes they eventually turn off, but its irritating. The other day I tried fiddling with the panel to turn off the alert lights, and now whenever I open a door the panel 'alarms' go off. Since then the alert lights on the door panels are showing. I couldn't turn the alarm off! Eventually I pulled the wires on the main alarm. Recently we had some smoke and the alarms went off. The alarm has not sounded for a year, no other issues. I noticed the motion sensors were still on, and the two door panels were still on and showing the date, but I figured they were hard wired. We didn't plan on using the security system (home all the time) so I turned off the breaker at the electric panel. When we moved in I noticed that a modem/router was removed from the main security panel. Once the sale completed (last year) the realtor emailed us a code, but I recently discovered that it doesn't work. Have an older system by the looks of it - DSC PowerSeries PC1616. Have already searched online but can't find info. Joined today, hoping someone would have some advice.
